Miami Institute Expands Its Board of Directors with the Appointment of Grieve Chelwa

Note: The Miami Institute for the Social Sciences announces that it has appointed economist Grieve Chelwa to its Board of Directors, effective during the latest Board meeting on March 25, 2022. This post provides some biographical information on our newest Board member, Dr. Chelwa, and links to his early intellectual contributions to the Miami Institute.

Based in Lusaka, Zambia, Dr. Grieve Chelwa is the Inaugural Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute on Race, Power and Political Economy at The New School in New York City, where he leads the Institute's work on inclusive economic rights. Before joining the New School, Dr. Chelwa was a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in economics at the University of Cape Town's Graduate School of Business and before that was the Inaugural Postdoctoral Fellow at the Center for African Studies at Harvard University. He was previously a visiting postdoctoral fellow at the Wits Institute for Social and Economic Research (WISER) at the University of the Witwatersrand. Dr. Grieve Chelwa holds a BA in Economics from the University of Zambia and advanced degrees in economics, including a PhD, from the University of Cape Town. Before taking up a career in academia, Dr. Chelwa was a banker with Citi and completed postings in Congo (DR), Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa.
